Nexus – PRE – Budget Seminar 2008
IIPM Pune ventured to organize a Pre - Budget Seminar titled --- Budget 2008. The seminar was organized at the MCCIA, ICC Tower in Pune on Wednesday, February 20th 2008. The keynote speakers were Mr.DV Nimbolkar, V.P.- Finance – Praj Industries., Mr. Chandrakant Doshi ,Partner – Doshi & Sons, Mr. Ameya Kunte,Manager (Direct Taxes) – E&Y, Pune, Mr Jai Sinh,Director – Pune Gas Parts & Services. The seminar started with an inaugural session from Prof.Jayanta Chakraborti - Associate Dean – Academics, IIPM Pune.He spoke about the Budget affecting the lives of the common people and being part of the management institute we must essentially know the intricate functioning of the Indian economy and what better way than the budget.
The seminar started with a scintillating presentation done by IIPM Students on Impact Analysis and Pre Budget Survey. The Impact Analysis was done on 20 Sectors and covered both the positive and negative outlook. The pre- budget survey brought out some interesting findings --- 56% respondents were of the opinion that Mr. P. Chidambaram is the India’s best finance minister in recent times , 49% were of the opinion that Dream budget is the one that reduces Income Taxes, 52% said the service tax to be reduced but 45% were of the opinion that the best way to improve the country’s infrastructure is through Public – Private partnership.
Mr. DV Nimbolkar helped the audience to understand the budget in a simplified manner. He also explained lucidly about the budget expectations for the Manufacturing Industry and the Simplification of the Tax Structure for the Indian Economy. Mr. Chandrakant Doshi gave an overview of the expectations for the Agriculture Sector and the overview of Direct & Indirect Taxes. Mr. Ameya Kunte focused on the IT & ITES Sector wherein he emphasized Extension for the Tax Holiday for IT Companies and the Introduction of Advanced Purchase Agreement ( APA) . Mr. Jai Singh emphasized on the infrastructure of the Indian Economy and the overall view of the Budget 2008 for the Indian Economy.
