Amaze 2007 Qualia…colors speak
That India’s real uniqueness lies in its diversity is about to be forgotten by us. Today everybody is trying to create divisions and boundaries. There is a ghetto around the place one lives and the way one lives. People are forgetting that our diversity could be our strengths in the face of terrorism today. Instead of understanding that the true essence being an Indian is about tolerance of differences, we are busy in creating differences.
The situation is as silly as it gets. To stand against that and deliver a strong message to the youth of today, this year Amaze events were built around the theme of ‘qualia…colors speak.’ The events were designed to showcase and display various colors of India in terms of its dance forms, cuisines, cultural rituals, folk art forms, and religions. The events were designed to convey the message of unity in diversity.
For 3 days, participants from across the country walked, danced, choreographed, developed business plans, took part in quizzes, cooked (there was a competition!) and simply indulged themselves in various fun events to showcase that we are one as a nation.
All in all, it was a brilliant event full of colors, India’s colors.

AMAZE 2006 PROVOKED! – truly amazing, it was!
Enjoy a video capturing Amaze 2006 Provoked!
You can also enjoy some still glimpses of Amaze 2006 Provoked!
The event received an unprecedented print media coverage spanning almost 10 days! Here is a sneak review of who’d covered and how…
If you think today’s youth are just a fun loving, selfish and insensitive bunch of people who are unconcerned about the world at large, think again! They are not. They are concerned and they are provoked! You will definitely believe that if you happen to know about the annual B-school event of IIPM Ahmedabad called Amaze.
Interestingly, the event this year was named as Amaze 2006 Provoked! to convey the message that today’s youth is concerned and sensitive about social issues. The conventional B-school event format was restructured to include events like Walk for a cause, in which the participant colleges had to walk in procession to campaign against child labour; Crack the Gandhi code, in which the participants had to write a business plan for a product which could contribute towards socio-economic development of rural India; Heritage Trail, in which the participants had to hunt treasures among the heritage places of Ahmedabad; and Culture Kurry, in which the participants had to shoot a documentary film showing unique culture of a given community.
All the events of Amaze 2006 Provoked! were highly competitive with students of top colleges and institutions from across the country as well as students from foreign institutions as participants. Among the participants were students from IIM Ahmedabad, MICA, IIT Roorkee, IIT Chennai, IIT Mumbai, DAIICT, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, ICFAI Business schools, Bangalore, Symbiosis, Pune, Nirma Institute of Management, SIES, Mumbai, IHM Ahmedabad, ITM Mumbai, EHSAL, Brussels, CROC University, Egypt, Galatasaray University, Istanbul, and University of St. Andrews, UK.
Apart from the unique events like Crack the Gandhi Code and Heritage Trail, there was a host of other events like Conquer India, a business plan competition for an MNC wanting to enter Indian market; 21st Century Drucker, a competion involving development of an India centric leadership model; live painting competition, ad film making, political cartooning, creative writing, rock music competition, business quiz, choreography, debate, and fashion show. Exhibition events in the evenings featured a concert by the famous sufi rock idol Kailash Kher and a DJ show by Nikhil Chinappa.

IIPM rocks AHMEDABAD with A-maze 2005
IIPM Ahmedabad ‘Amazed’ everyone by setting a new landmark.
Winners of the events were many. Fun was limitless. Evenings were mind blowing. Music was hot. The stage was burnt alive many times over the two days; burnt with energy, dynamism, and the power of youth. Yet no mortal perhaps could have competed with the event.
At the end, the event itself won without competition. Ahmedabad has never witnessed such a campus event. Crowd of a size of more than 9,000 dancing and cheering almost in a trance on two consecutive evenings… events packed with enthusiasm…well, all this is unbelievable in a college event. Other such events at other campuses in the city (mostly at the famous B-Schools) would fall short of miles, if compared with Amaze 2005.
The first evening witnessed a very unique and awesome Radio Mirchi music quiz and then some extravagant and passionate choreography. Participants of various colleges danced like professionals, with so much energy that every time a college team finished its rendition, the crowd wanted more. The fashion show was also a big hit. Although the theme (Devil on the loose…tame it) was overdone by some colleges, but the costumes and the attitudes were mind blowing! And the guys and the gals were hot and sizzling. In the evening, we experienced some fabulous performances by well- know DJs of Ahmedabad, and to sparkle the evening round about 9000 people gathered at the venue..
The second evening was something very special for the ‘Ambawadis’.,as the Fame- Gurukul jodi, Roophrekha & Kazi, performed live on stage. Rex also joined in and all of them delivered some sizzling numbers, one after another. Rex started first. And the crowd went on frenzy. Rooprekha joined in. They just went mad. And when, Kazi came on the stage, people present in the venue got delighted. They all stood up and started singing with Kazi. Everyone was falling over others to dance and get a good glimpse of the man. He won millions of hearts with his rocking performance. And it was a joy to watch him performing live… Prominent Singer ‘Chintan Bakiwala’ who has sung many popular songs was another attraction of the show. And he enthralled the audience with his magnificent performance.
Also present to tickle the ribs of the audience was ‘Dharsi Baredia’ of the Great Indian Laughter fame, who cast a spell over the audience, and made everyone laugh with his witty remarks.
The famous mimicry artist ‘Ranjan Sahu’ added some more glitters to the evening. He amazed everyone with his immense talent. All people were rejoiced, having experienced such wonderful performances.
The second day evening event was organized by Planman Life. And in fact, the entire team of Planman Life worked overnight to make the event successful. Amaze 2005 surely touched a great height because of the effort of Planman Life team. They lead a
bunch of young and enthusiast students of IIPM as well as all the staff members of IIPM Ahmedabad to create a benchmark in campus events in the city.
The Journey began two months before the D-Day with a meticulous planning for the two-day extravaganza of Amaze and Planman Life Concert. The first Interaction with the Ahmedabad Crowd came into force with the first ad in Divya Bhaskar on 17th November 2005, which continued for a span of 22 days. Interaction with the Ahmedabad crowd didn’t stop with the Ads only but had some more sessions of 14 huge hoardings placed at all the prominent sites across Ahmedabad as well as a nicely decorated canter for the Road Show which moved across the entire city for over 5 days before the event.
People were heard whispering that Amaze has even beaten Chaos (IIMA annual B-school event) and all other events like MiCanvas (of MICA) and those of Nirma, CEPT and NID. Of course, with the kind of crowd it could gather up for two nights of fun, Amaze sure was a winner. It set up a benchmark for others to emulate.
All the competition events were also great. HLBBA institute was the winning team as they won three first prizes, six-second prizes and one-third prize. IIPM Delhi students were also a smashing hit with all present. Their attitude and their skills easily became a matter of envy and later a matter of pride to all IIPMites. They participated in only a few events, but wherever they did, they won at least a prize. In debate, they were just mind blowing. The moment they took the mike; it was sure who were going to win.
IIPM Ahmedabad students stood second in the overall tally of college teams. They did fairly well in Adzap and Business Plan. Abhishek Tiwari of IIPM Ahmedabad was chosen Mr. Amaze and Megha Jaitly of IIPM Delhi was chosen Ms. Amaze.
All in all, Amaze 2005 will be remembered for a lifetime. The benchmark has been set for other colleges in the city to reach. And the benchmark has been set for IIPM Ahmedabad too. We have to take the benchmark higher next year. I am sure we will. |
