  Mr. Aditya Jain, CEO, ADDREC Solutions.

Mr. Aditya Jain, CEO, AddRec Solutions visited our campus to deliver a Career Talk on Consulting as a Career. During his presentation, he tried to focus on many management principles and their practical usage in the industry. Mr. Jain presented the SWOT Analysis of Manpower Solutions Market.

Strengths are: It’s a new economy knowledge based business, Every team members / teams financial productivity is measurable, Can start small, but must grow to survive, If System & Process driven, can grown big, very fast, AddRec’s case, Get to meet & interact with some of the best people in the business world.

Opportunities are: Infinite – Industry growing at 30+%, Build Domain expertise, You’ll win if you are Honest, focused & have an eye for detail, Think ‘Manpower Solutions’ not ‘Recruitment or Consultancy’, Build strong repo with client managers & keep winning.

Weakness are: It’s a small market in global terms, Relatively High Attrition – Can be reduced, Is not an organized market – Needs consolidation, Constant in & out flow of clients, Key employee attrition – Again can be managed, Your inability to see future growth avenues , Inability to work with the best Clients.

Threats are: Relatively low entry barrier – But you can increase the same, with strong Client Relationships, IT & Domain Expertise, Economic downturn, Your Domain expertise industry not performing, Clients own HR team, Clients own Strong System Processes, Dishonest job seekers, poor professional values. After, talking about the various aspects of Manpower, he than talked about the careers in Consulting and he focused on what skills are required, what is the minimum eligibility, what is your future, can training help in this industry, and what are the roles of a fresh management graduate. To get a better & clear idea, he gave case study of Reliance, Coke v/s Pepsi. Overall, it was a very interesting and interactive session. Students loved interacting with Mr. Jain and after his presentation there was Q&A round.
 
     
  Career Talk in Pharma Industry by Mr. A.M. Ramakrishnan

Mr. A.M. Ramakrishnan, Vice- President T&D, Intas Pharmaceuticals visited to our campus to deliver Career talk on Pharma Industry. He covered Health-care Industry: - Pharmaceutical Industry, Future projections, Career Path., Eligibility for entry, Skills and competencies, Prospective companies.

In the lecture, the guest mentioned looking at the sector wise distribution that Healthcare is the largest service industry in terms of revenue and the second largest after education in terms of employment. He also mentioned that by 2012, Healthcare sector would account for 7-8% of GDP, and provide direct and indirect employment
to 9 million.

After explaining about the Indian Pharma Industry, Mr. Ramakrishnan talked about the career path in Pharma Industry. Than he explained that what a management trainee (Entry level) requires when they join the industry. They should have marketing personality and attitude, knowledge of Health Care Market & Pharmaceutical Market, its components, Elements and Process, Strategy and tactics, Basic Knowledge of Pharma Market and marketing practices and most important Knowledge of where you want to go – vision. He also discussed what skills a new management trainee should have; skills of communication i.e. spoken, written, presentation, creativity, interpersonal skills, and of course grooming (Presentation, smile etc…) Mr. Ramakrishnan also gave various tips how students should prepare like English : TV, Newspaper, Debates, writing, Volunteer for speaking assignments, Look out of speaking competitions, Write to newspaper, online magazines, Write a book / start writing a book, Record speech, review and improve, Identify speaking defects, Read Pharma Pulse etc. Before interview, discuss with friends in industry, Prepare on basics before interview; brand plan etc.
 
     
 

Career Talk on Finance – Challenges of Commodity Market on 20th October 2008.

Mr. Ashish Nagdev, Branch Head, Altos Advisory took a career talk on Finance with more focus on commodity market. Looking into the present market, this career talk helped the students to clear their understanding about the market especially commodity market.Mr. Ashish started the talk with simple understanding of commodity market. He said that the vast geographical extent of India and her huge population is aptly complemented by the size of her market. The broadest classification of the Indian Market can be made in terms of the commodity market and the bond market.

Modern marketing strategies and other techniques of sales promotion enable such markets to draw customers from every section of the society. However the growth of such markets has still centered on the urban areas primarily due to infrastructural limitations. Considering the present growth rate, the total valuation of the Indian Retail Market is estimated to cross Rs. 10,000 billion by the year 2010. Demand for commodities is likely to become four times by 2010 than what it presently is.

Overall, career talk was very knowledgeable for the finance students who aspire to take corporate finance as their career. Interactive session from both the sides. At the end there was Q&A round where students cleared their doubts.

 
     
 

Career Talk on Media by Mr. Montu Jain, India Today on 23rd September 2008.

Mr. Montu Jain, Chief Deputy Manager, India Today conducted a career talk on Media. This career talk was for the batch of 2007-2009. The idea behind all the career talks is to give more information about the various fields in the market and how they work, so students can have more clear picture in which area they want to go.

Mr. Jain said that as a career, advertising offers a unique blend of opportunities. In few other industries will you find a more eclectic group of individuals — all under one roof! The main areas of operation are client servicing, media planning, creative and research.

Mr. Jain also said that if they enter in this; industry rewards are directly commensurate with the initiative you display, the effort you put in and the results you achieve. If you are ambitious and hard working, you can quickly move up the ladder. Towards the end of the lecture, Mr. Jain said that makes this industry really attractive is that media forms are multiplying everyday – and those in the industry are in the forefront of all this evolution. There are various skills required – but more of that in my next mouthpiece.

Students enjoyed the session, they got better and clear picture about careers in Media.

 
     
  Career Talk by Mr. Pavan Vemuri on Corporate Finance

Mr. Pavan Vemuri, Assistant Vice President of Dawnay Dey Securities, took career talk on Corporate Finance. He talked about areas of finance dealing with financial decisions, corporations make, and the tools & analysis. Than he explained working capital and capital investment , which is investment in equity or debt in order to give dividends or not. Mr. Pavan mentioned that corporate finance is also associated with investment banking.

After briefing what is Corporate Finance, Mr. Vemuri discussed the careers in Corporate Finance. Career in Corporate Finance means to work for a Company to raise & manage funds to run the business, growing the business, make acquisitions, plan for its financial future and manage cash on hand. He than explained further Jobs for financial officer is to create value for company through liquidity, flexibility, compliance with loans and regulatory support.

Later Mr. Vemuri said the benefits of working in Corporate Finances; benefits like working in teams, fun to tackle business problems that really matter and many opportunities to travel and meet people. He also said what is expected from a management trainee. The fresher should be good at numbers; his world should run on sales, he should think why he should buy certain stocks with P/E; sales should be there in the basket of management trainee.

Overall, career talk was very knowledgeable for the finance students who aspire to take corporate finance as their career. It was an interactive session from both the ends. At the end there was Q&A round where students cleared their doubts.
 
     
  Career Talk in Logistics by Mr. T. P. Emmanuel, Branch Manager, Crescent Shipping Industries.

Mr. Emmanuel, Regional Head, MOL Logistics Pvt. Ltd., visited to our campus and explained various terms and process of Logistics and shipping industry. Mr. Emmanuel started with what is logistics? Logistics means management of flow and storage of goods & services from its origin to consumption. He also talked about difference between shippers and shipping line, marketing of shipping line (all importers and exporters are your customers).

During the lecture, Mr. Emmanuel also talked about the role of HR in shipping industry; HR personnel should know everything that is happening in the company and industry.

This career talk was very new to students, hence they had many questions like; what if the bill is lost, than will the goods be loaded or unloaded or they will be returned, how many bills are required, how they are shipped etc.

Overall, it was a very interesting session with loads of questions by the students.
