AMAZE 07
On behalf of IIPM Bangalore and Club Alchemy, we would like to report that “The liveliest B-school Fest” in the country, Amaze 2007 was a rip roaring success.
The Highlights of the festival were three grand nights – “The GOOD AS GOLD” concert featuring the Swedish band REDNEX, the “LIVE AS LIFE” rock night featuring India’s best rock act—PARIKRAMA and the REMIX NITE featuring DJs CHICO and SWING with RJs PALLAVI, PRITHVI and RAKESH.
The only ever college festival to be marketed and publicized on such a humungous scale attracted great participation from over 30 top colleges (including participants from Chennai and Delhi) and a footfall of well over 15,000 people over the three days of the fest. The management events revolved around the fests mission to use itself as a platform to spread awareness about the Millennium Development Goals. The events stood out for their innovative design and knowledge centric approach. The pro nights of course, in true IIPM Bangalore style were of international caliber featuring Rednex, Parikrama, DJs Chico and Swing and RJs Prithvi, Pallavi and Rakesh. With extensive outdoor publicity, radio coverage, press releases and television broadcasting Amaze 2007 indeed was one of the liveliest college events in the country.
Bangalore was splashed with the colours of IIPM & AMAZE 07 for two and a half weeks all over the city, hoardings on Brigade Road, Airport Road, Jayanagar, CMH Road, Sankey Tank and Koramangala, medians at Jayanagar and West of Chord Road, Road Shows, Drop downs at the malls, Standees in all malls and popular hangouts around the city and slides at PVR Cinemas—the city’s definitive multiplex, publicity in all Café Coffee Days were just a few of the initiatives that we took to let Bangalore know what IIPM Amaze is all about. A team of about 35 people went to all colleges in and around Bangalore publicizing the management and cultural events. Bangalore’s biggest and most buzzing mall Forum saw an extensive on ground promotion with students publicizing the cause and the programme.
A charity walkathon flagged off by the MD of Reva Motors, Mr. Chetan Maini was organized to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals where 250 students from IIPM and 8 other institutes participated. It was a 5KM (3 Mile) walk.
The management events at AMAZE 2007 were the most interesting, innovative and though provoking ever seen at a Management Festival. The headline event was the ‘Global Youth Debate Conclave’ which brought together the finest debating talent from Bangalore and across India as well as abroad to discuss issues relating to the Millennium Development Goals. There were three rounds of fierce Individual and team face off debating judged by the best in the business—Mr. Rishikesh Chhabra (Communications Director, WUDI) and Mr. Francis from Toast Masters International. The Conclave also had participants from the east Asian countries of Sri Lanka and Mauritius.
The finance event, Index Factor—A CFO Workout was a hotly contested one where a live market trading simulation was carried out based on a software designed by the members of the Finance Club of IIPM—Finex. The added twist was that participants were also introduced to the concept of ‘Socially Responsible Investing’ through an exclusive Club Finex presentation. The participants really appreciated the whole experience and took away a lot of learning from the exercise.
As ever, the Dumb Charades and Mad Ads events turned out to be highly popular with fierce competition and loads of entertainment as students used cricket to sell ‘Bitter Gourds’ and Bollywood Songs to sell ‘Tissue Paper’ as they were judged by Mr. Satish Rajamani, senior Project Manager at Oracle. The HR Event ‘Human Factor’ was judged by Mr Tarun Ahuja the CEO of Peak Performance Trainings and a renowned Leadership Trainer. The event consisted of a round where participants had to design and deliver a training module according to the specifications of the presenting sponsor of the event—Study Melbourne. Mr. Ahuja and Mr. Sachid (from Study Melbourne) judged and gave the participants feedback on the modules they delivered.
The Torque Sports Quiz called SPORT QUEST, which was a departure from the standard corporate quizzes that are there in management fests elicited excellent response with 50+ teams in the elimination phase, out of which 16 top ones made it to the quarter finals. After four hotly contested quarters and nail biting semi finals, the four top teams made it to the final. The final was a highly audio visual oriented affair with lots of visual clues, audio and videos that had the audience in raptures. It was great to see participants grappling with remembering who took India’s first One Day hat trick (that’s Chetan Sharma, by the way) or what was so special about English striker Gary Lineker and yellow cards (he never received one in his entire professional career!). At last the team from IBMR came out winners piping New Horizon College of Engineering, Jain College and BMS College of Engineering in a close battle!
Another unique feature this time was the Photography contest ‘Click’ where budding shutterbugs from all the colleges tried to capture the essence of the theme ‘The Yin and Yang of Development’ through their lenses. The final photos were judged by Mr. Yadev Prakash, a professional photographer and owner of Yadev Studio, one of the leading ones in Bangalore along with Mr. Sachin Bharadwaj (Declared one of the 3 top photographers by the Shanghai Times). Also trying their hands at the Post It Socially Aware contest, students communicated their hopes and aspirations about the MDGs through a set of collages involving normal collage and some innovative use of Post It products. Mr. Jitender Singh (Marketing Analyst—Post It Brand, 3M Limited) was there to judge the best entry which was taken by the team from IBMR.
Night one featured performances by the top fashion show teams from various colleges, the finale of the Mr. & Ms. Amaze with judges from the modeling and fashion industry who gave the models excellent feedback for future careers. The panel included Paresh Lamba, Radika Rao, Tarun Malik & Jitender Singh. This was followed by “The Remix Nite” with DJ Chico And Swing and RJ Pallavi, Prithvi and Rakesh from Radio ONE. With a crowd of 2000 couples, it was indeed one of the biggest parties any college has ever thrown. It features the best audio in Bangalore, excellent lighting and dazzling pyro-techniques. Everyone was thrown aback at the quality, scale and expertise of the event which was pulled off by a group of students.
The performance of Second Earth And PARIKRAMA on the same stage, for an audience of an energetic audience of over 6,000, is something that city will talk about for a long time. The student team of IIPM made it a point to put in their 100 per cent efforts to get all the requirements ready for the 11 member rock band to electrify the audience with a perfect synergy of all instruments. Just when the gates opened at 6:30 like clockwork all the covers came off, generators came on, a single beat resounding on the new Aero Line array(the biggest sound setup in any college fest till date), lights flashing on and Second Earth, a band from Kolkatta walked onto the stage. The crowd went berserk and couldn’t believe the true spirit of IIPM. They got crowd into tempo for the arrival of India’s longest running rock band PARIKRAMA, a Delhi based band that played in a tribute of 15 years of Rock N Roll. They performed popular covers and also their famous originals and truly entertained the crowd in their true style. Once the show came to an end the crowd wanted more of IIPM entertainment and were really excited to come again the next day for internationally reputed and world famous band, REDNEX to relive the fever of “Cotton Eye Joe”.
It was a rendezvous with the rock band,Rednex who entertained the city’s music buffs with their dance numbers.the event was held to mark the last day of the Annual festival of The Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Bangalore.
The event started with musician Raja and Dj Swing building the tempo for the mega event. The troupe then stormed the stage with their lead singer Mary Joe. Dressed in smart ‘cowboy attire’, buckles and COM boots, she looked stunning and dazzling. The male singers were seen in casual jeans and tees donning cowboy hats.
The musicians began with verve and enthusiastic banter which kept the multitude in sync with their tunes. They showcased their unique blend of western country folk with contemporary pop, with imaginative use of off beat instruments like the Banjo and the violin (not the staple of your 'run of the mill' rock band). The set of effervescent entertainers belted out hits like ‘Cotton Eyed Joe’, ‘Mama take me home’, ‘Old pop in an Oak’, ‘Fe Fi’. They even dedicated ‘Wish you were here’ to 10,000 Bangaloreans. The energy and vibrancy in their songs rejuvenated the crowd.
The two month long efforts and sleepless nights of team AMAZE 2007 paid off in multiplied accolades and applaud from the overwhelming crowd that Palace Grounds witnessed on all three days of the festival and enticed the Team to make future AMAZES even bigger and better.
We received immense support from all our sponsors who came forward and were a part of this 3 day long festival on various levels. YAMAHA Roxx was our presenting sponsor in association with Digital Shoppy, Pepsi, Fosters (Packaged Mineral Water), Hutch, Journey Experts, Post-it®, Bosch, Alpine Constructions, Peter England and Study Melbourne. Our media partner was MID DAY and hospitality was supported by The Royal Orchid. The whole event was supported by Business and Economy, 4Ps, The Sunday Indian, ICPAR, Café Coffee Day, PVR, Forum, Black and White, Studio Focus, Saraswathi, Printo and Radio ONE.
This year’s AMAZE was conceived with a notion of creating awareness about the ‘Millennium Development Goals’ and through all the events and the grand gala finale acts, the message was sent to Bangalore loud and clear. This was a fest.
