Two days before the festival of lights (DIWALI), the students of the Fall Winter 2007 / 2009 and the UGP 2007/10 batches organized a food festival, in the campus. The basic objective of the food festival was to promote the various cultural and ethnic diversities that prevail in the country and also to promote the traditional foods of each region. While the main objective of the event was to create a real life business situation for the students and to enhance their entrepreneurial skills. The students made investments in setting up their stalls and towards preparing the food items and ultimately they sold the food items to generate revenue for themselves and also pushed their sales to earn profits.

THE EVENT

The entire cafeteria was filled with various food stalls. Each stall representing a particular region / State. There were representations from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, North East, Maharashtra, , The event started with a rigorous marketing activity by the students through various promotions with the help of posters all across the campus and also through word of mouth publicity. The students bared the expenses of setting up stalls and also each stall was decorated in the most traditional way. Each stall followed their own traditional way of welcoming the guests, By afternoon the cafeteria was filled with the fragrances of food, from various parts of the country. Folks of people started to gather and the delicious aroma gave the taste buds a watery beginning. Soon the cafeteria was filled with people and almost all the stalls were choc a blocked with guests. People came streaming in , during their lunch hour and they were tempted to try all the stalls out without giving a care to their stomach. The students got extremely busy in serving the guests and every food item sold like hotcakes. Their selling opportunity got increased by the timely closure of the canteen and they made the most of it.

Once you entered the cafeteria, you were welcomed by the coordinators and you were introduced to each stall. Each stall was decorated in the traditional way and various sample food items were on display in the most appetizing manner. Then it was the students turn to welcome you to their respective stalls and offer you the delicacies of their region. And that’s not all; after you had food from one stall it was the next one’s turn to welcome you. The guests ate as if there was no tomorrow and the students won their heart quite easily.

At the end of it the main objective was accomplished. Each stall recovered the costs that they had incurred in their preparation and managed to make profits. The stall from North East was able to mesmerize the guests by their traditional Momo’s and made the maximum turnover. The stall from Punjab was definitely the best in terms of the Quality of food and the overall décor and was rightly judged the Best Stall award by the judges. the award for the best food was ultimately given to the stall from Kerala.

Overall it was a event filled with Fun, entertainment and of course a fair bit of learning experience for the students
