Chak De Screening
Who says the only place to learn in a B School and the corporate world? Students of the Fall Winter 2007/09 and UGP 2007/10 batch of The Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Bangalore experienced an unique learning outing as they watched the latest cult hit 'Chak De India' (at PVR Cinemas in The Forum Bangalore) starring Shah Rukh Khan, where he plays a hockey coach attempting to lead a rag tag Indian women's hockey team to glory at the World Cup. Lessons of team work, motivation, achievement and secrets of success played out on the 70mm screen in Dolby surround sound as the students whopped, cheered, even wolf whistled and egged on the team and had a jolly good time themselves. About 180 students enjoyed the wholesome movie experience (Popcorn/Soft drink combo included!) and were gleeful after the end that they took this unique opportunity to learn while having fun. And being true IIPMites, they rushed back for their classes starting at 1:30 PM as soon as the movie got over at 1! Chak de IIPM! |

Ethnic Diwas
The day started of with the decorations being complete and last minute requirements and adjustments being made. There was a lot of excitement created because the grand nature of the event took the students by surprise. There was a healthy response from the Fall Winter 2006/08 batch, with most of them turning out in ethnic. The Spring summer batch had exams so very few were in ethnic in the morning. But seeing almost the whole college dressed in ethnic clothing, many of them came back dressed in ethnic clothing after their exams. The staff added color and excitement to the event.
The whole college was very colorful. It was truly touching to see how many actually showed patriotism in celebrating republic day. The day started with the Rangoli competition.
The Rangoli competition was kick started with three teams starting their rangolis near the Nescafe stall. The rangoli event went on till 5:30 in the evening with almost ten teams competing. The entrance to the college was immersed in color and it gave a very festive look to the whole campus.
A mehendi stall was setup, where students could get mehendi applied on their hands at a very nominal charge. There was also a mehendi competition, which also lasted through out the day. There were around eight entries and the quality of competition made life very difficult for the judges.
A special stall was created to get a feel of Republic Day. The stall had post it notes, where a person has to write his dream of India or what he feels about India. Then he has to post it on the entrance to the college building. In return he gets an India flag painted free of cost anywhere on his body. This stall saw a lot of dreams and visions for India.
A special staff photo session was conducted as all were dressed in ethnic clothing. It was a truly fun filled session with lots of poses being struck.
At 1730hrs, the festival focus was shifted to the auditorium, where lots more excitement was awaiting. The session was kick started by Prof. Vikram Tanwar and Prof. Tareque Laskar. The first event was the Fashion show which saw a record number of 16 teams participating. People displayed true Indian spirit in turning out in ethnic clothing from all parts of India. The lighting and the ambience gave a perfect setting to it.
This set the platform of something that was creating a lot of mystery and excitement among the students for sometime now. This event gave a perfect launch pad for Amaze 07’ and who better to launch it than our own Prof. Bhairav Shanth. A brief on what is Amaze and the brief plans were revealed. This really got the students really excited and a buzz went around the auditorium.
After this the Mr. & Ms. Ethnic event was started. There were six boys and six girls selected for the final round depending on how well they were dressed. Each were given 15 seconds to their claim to the crown. It was a well fought event and gave the judges some hard thinking.
And before the euphoria for dandiya could take over, we had a brief feedback from Mr. Ashwin Suresh and the prizes were announced, followed by the vote of thanks. Then the dandiya sticks were brought out and the people went berserk. The dandiya session went on till about 2030hrs, after which the event had to be wound up.
To wrap it all up, it was a very successful event exceeding all expectations. You could say a benchmark was set for the future events to follow. The list of winners is as given below.
