Bausch & Lomb
21st November 2007

60 IIPM students of spring summer batch 2007-09 got an excellent opportunity to visit Bausch & Lomb on the 21st of November, 2007 and it was a very fruitful and enriching experience. It took us about two-and-half hours to reach the unit at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The visit started by the refreshments that was given by the Bausch & Lomb followed by the plant visit and ended by the q & a round with the management. The plant visit started by the presentation of Mr. Sunil chaturvedi- quality assurance manager. His presentation included the history of Bausch & Lomb and the success till date. The Bausch and Lomb factory is built up in a perfect and developing industrial area located at Bhiwadi, 64 kms from Delhi. It was very well maintained, right from the small park, hygienic cafeteria to the neat passages leading to the well marked various departments. Bausch & Lomb mainly produces two kinds of products which includes Contact lenses& lens caring Solutions-“Renu multiples” lens clearing solutions in 60,120,360,520ml packages. Then the Quality control and Testing officer talked about the types of testing in Bausch & Lomb. HPLC-High Performance Liquid Chromatography for Physical stability of the lenses. Microbiological testing is mostly to check for infections. Chemical testing is mainly for the solutions. Demand & Supply gap is managed by Mr. Sanjeev lakhani – sr. officer manufacturing that how the projected demand is passed by the marketing & sales people at IDC Gurgaon and then they pass on the figures after consulting with the corporate office which maintains the record. As far as Industrial relation is considered The HR practices are very good indeed, the total staff in the plant including the part timers will not exceed by 100.There is no trade union no strikes. Staffs are well taken of. The shift is of 9 hrs generally & 1 or maximum of 2 shifts are carried out generally in a day. A future prospect of Bausch & Lomb is To be the market leader in eye care, surgical instruments. In India it has 80% of market share with revenue of around 200 crores. It has started projects in towns like Panthnagar where there is little knowledge for eye care by setting of hospitals. The company is working on new R&D strategies to capture more market share and retain its status.

 
     
 
           

 

                 
 
  Mother Dairy
20th November 2007

70 IIPM students of spring summer batch 2007-09 got an excellent opportunity to visit the mother of all dairies that is MOTHER DAIRY PROCESSING LTD. Mother Dairy - Delhi was set up in 1974 under the Operation Flood Programme. It is now a subsidiary company of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The visit was followed by the presentation of Mr. I.M BOSE (Sr. Supdt.- consumer information) includes how Mother Dairy sources its entire requirement of liquid milk from dairy cooperatives. Similarly, Mother Dairy sources fruits and vegetables from farmers/growers associations. Students got to know the quality controls at Mother Dairy, processing of milk is controlled by process automation whereby state-of-the-art microprocessor technology is adopted to integrate and completely automate all functions of the milk processing areas to ensure high product quality/ reliability and safety. Mother Dairy, Delhi has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management Systems), HACCP, 2002 RvA (Food Safety Management Systems) and ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management Systems) Certifications. Moreover, its Quality Assurance Laboratory is accredited as per ISO/IEC 17025:1999 by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.Mother Dairy markets dairy products like Liquid Milk, Ice Creams, Flavored Milk, Dahi, Lassi, Mishti Doi, Ghee, Butter, Cheese, Dairy Whitener, UHT Milk, Dhara range of edible oils and the Safal range of fresh fruits & vegetables, frozen vegetables and fruit juices at a national level, through it's sales. Students looked at various aspects of the process with great deal of enthusiasm & were impressed with the excellent management of the plant. Students at last accepted that two glasses of milk provides for 100% of the daily intake of calcium required by teenagers, so they promised to have two glasses of milk each day. distribution networks, for ma to come, Mother Dairy shall strive to become a leading player in the food industry
 
     
 
               

 

                 
 
  Action Shoes And Footwear
17th November 2007

On 17th November, 2007 50 IIPM students of fall winter batch went to ACTION SHOES AND FOOTWEAR Factory Located at Peragarhi, New Delhi. The session started with the corporate office visit of action shoes followed by the exclusive factory outlet and ended at the research and development department. Mr. Ankur bhatnagar-manager business development started the presentation with the introduction of the action journey till now followed by the production unit and ended at the R&D of action shoes. After the introduction, customer relation officer explained the marketing strength of the action shoes to the IIPM students. The Action marketing philosophy emphasizes catering to the masses, consistently meeting the need and aspirations of every evolving generation.   Surya Foods Agro Ltd.
5th November 2007

On 5th November, 70 IIPM students tasted PRIYAGOLD biscuits through an industrial visit in SURYA FOODS AGRO LTD. The plant visit started by the small presentation by Mr. Anil Sharma. He gave an introduction about the wondrous magical journey of Surya Food & Agro Ltd. began in Oct. 1993 & since then they have been one of the leading manufacturers of biscuits in northern India. The production manager Mr. Anil Sharma helped students to know about the processes and management planning in an organization. The session started with the manufacturing department where biscuits were prepared, next was the packaging unit where the biscuits are packed as per quantity & price. And at the end we visited the printing unit where the wrappers are being printed. It was really an amazing experience while viewing those biscuits being prepared so beautifully & systematically. And, the most efficient & amazing thing was the recycling of the waste; we saw different shapes & sizes of biscuits being baked and that was really worth watching. And, how can we forget the packaging unit because in this unit not only the machinery were working to pack the biscuits but the labors were equally efficient & quick like machines in packing the biscuits. It was very interesting to watch the particular & exact numbers of biscuits being packed so accurately within seconds. Then at the end we visited the printing unit where we saw that how these attractive, colorful packs are being printed for packing. There were so many beautiful dyes which were being used for printing. A very positive thing about the industry was that the production manager himself was guiding us to every unit & simultaneously explaining us and he was very patient & courteous to answer our queries. Also the production manager gave us the knowledge about their other plant which manufactures juice in the name of FRESHGOLD & it’s located in Noida. Production manger spoke on how they are managing the demand supply gap, industrial relations, how they are targeting et al. In nutshell Surya foods industrial visit made a fruitful contribution to students.
 
     
 
           

 

                 
 
  PARLE COMPANY

What happens when education is blend with the packets of biscuits as 200 IIPM STUDENTS from spring summer batch got an excellent opportunity to visit the Parle biscuits Pvt. Ltd. Factory? The session started with an informative documentary movie followed by the plant visit and ended with an interactive discussion with the management of the Parle.

A documentary movie was all about their brands of biscuits, candies and cakes. The movie increased the knowledge base of the students about how Parle is following the quality methods, planning the processes related to manufacturing of their brands. Over the years, Parle has grown to become a multi-million US Dollar company. Today, Parle enjoys a 40% share of the total biscuit market and a 15% share of the total confectionary market, in India. The Parle Biscuit brands, such as, Parle-G, Monaco and Krackjack and confectionery brands, such as, Melody, Poppins, Mangobite and Kismi, enjoy a strong imagery and appeal amongst consumers.

Then the Parle representatives includes the production officer and the operation’s head made students exposed to the production unit followed by the manufacturing unit and packaging.

The last session of the visit was very interactive where the IIPM students got an opportunity to have a discussion with the management Mr. Vinod Bishnoi; production officer interacted with the students on the quality standards and customer confidence. All Parle products are manufactured under the most hygienic conditions. Great care is exercised in the selection & quality control of raw materials, packaging materials & rigid quality standards are ensured at every stage of the manufacturing process. Every batch of biscuits & confectioneries are thoroughly checked by expert staff, using the most modern equipment. With addition to all this, he also spoke on marketing strength which Parle built over the years. The extensive distribution network, built over the years, is a major strength for Parle Products. Parle biscuits & sweets are available to consumers, even in the most remote places and in the smallest of villages with a population of just 500. The Parle marketing philosophy emphasizes catering to the masses. We constantly endeavor at designing products that provide nutrition & fun to the common man. Most Parle offerings are in the low & mid-range price segments. This is based on our cultivated understanding of the Indian consumer psyche. The value-for-money positioning helps generate large sales volumes for the products. However, Parle Products also manufactures a variety of premium products for the up-market, urban consumers. And in this way, caters a range of products to a variety of consumers.   Escorts Ltd., Faridabad

The students of batch of PGP/SS (07-09) got an excellent opportunity to visit the Escorts Ltd. It was enriching experience for all the students when they saw functional of giant organization Escorts and how tuff it is to manage. Mr. Magho from marketing division of Escorts accompanied the students of IIPM to the manufacturing unit and explained the technicalities and the marketing strategies of the Escorts.
 
     
 
               

 

                 
 
  Parle Industry, Neemrana
22nd & 29th June, 2007

The students of the batch of PGP/SS (07-09) visited to Parle Industry, Neerana on 22nd & 29th June 2007. The session started with a presentation where the factory manager explained how Parle fought against all odds to first survive in the market and then make Parle biscuits a house hold name the students were then taken around the Factory area to see the manufacturing process and the packaging process. It was enriching experience fore all the students who visited the factory.
 
     
 
       

 

                 
 
  MOTHER DAIRY VISIT-OCTOBER 18TH, 2006 (WEDNESDAY)

50 students from the UG’s (2006-09) batch visited Mother Dairy, the largest liquid milk plant in Asia on 18th, October, 06 started in 1974 under the Operations Flood programme of National Dairy Development Board. Presently Mother Dairy sells more than 20 Lac Litres of Milk per day. The visit turned out be a great learning & enriching experience. The students were thrilled after listening to the presentation given by Mr.I.M.Jose (Sr. Supdt.) C.I.S at Patparganj plant. Lots of their doubts & misconceptions were cleared after an interesting interactive session with Mr.Jose, who explained the total functioning of Mother Dairy Network, the production process, the organizational structure & their work culture. He stressed on the importance of Time Management & Quality Control in milk industry. Students witnessed the entire production process i.e. Clarification, Homogenization, Pasteurization, Fortification (with Vitamin A) & dispatch. They were taken to Quality Control Department where they saw the testing of milk for purity & for quality. The visit to Control Room was a good experience, students witnessed the efficient distribution of milk to over 1600 shops across the city. Students were made aware of the importance of milk consumption. They felt amazed when they saw that such a large plant functioning without milk being touched once & the hygiene maintained was admirable. To raise the Consumers awareness regarding adulteration of milk, Mother dairy has thrown open its testing facilities. Students relished free flowing milk in various flavors. Then came the ice-creams which was the treat for the students. Students were surprised to see the wide product range & complex but automated the production processes. Seeing one’s favorite ice-cream being made in front of one’s eyes was a great experience. The networking amongst various departments was marvelous. Students appreciated the precautionary measures the unit undertakes to maintain the quality, purity & hygiene. Students looked at various aspects of the process with great deal of enthusiasm & were impressed with the excellent management of the plant.
