Venue: SERVICE LANE, MARINA BEACH ROAD

Chief Guest/Guest of Honor: ARUN KUMAR (ACTOR)

Participants: 30 REHABILITITED CHILDREN AND 200 PEOPLE ALONG WITH IIPM AND PLANMAN STAFF

Event Description with details of the event:

Chennai, 29th January’06: Childhood for most people means fun, innocence, play, schools, and freedom - in short, a care-free life. But for around 5,000 children in Chennai, things work differently. They are the victims of child labour. Lost in wilderness with the work and cowed down by the responsibility of earning money for their family, these children have seen their childhood vaporize in front of their eyes. The tender hands that are supposed to carry books carry bricks.

“Walk for a cause” was an attempt by IIPM’s (Indian institute of Planning and Management) GID Club (Great Indian Dream Club) to garner support for these deprived children. The event was in collaboration with GIDF (Great Indian Dream Foundation), an NGO that has a project running in regards to the education of underprivileged children. They are already taking care of 12,500 children’s education all round the country.

The walk commenced at 9.30 am on the service lane near Labour Statue, Marina (3.5km). Around 30 rehabilitated children and 200 people took part in the walk. Actor Arun Kumar also joined the crowd for the cause. A lot of enthusiasm was shown by the students of IIPM and staff of Planman Consulting. The walk was sponsored by Fitness One Club in Chennai, Red Bull, the energy drink and Appasamy Hospital.

Sponsors: FITNESS ONE, RED BULL APPASAMY HOSPITAL
