ARE YOU AMAZED?

Amaze, a creation of Alchemy Club, gives all IIPM-ites the platform to bring forth their positive gesture, to elicit the dormant determination and decisively showcase their talent before an electrifying audience. Amaze is beyond just another B-School festival. It is a celebration of joy, of colors, of success. In fact, Amaze creates a positive approach for these excited young minds and helps to sustain their sporty spirit. IIPM always takes pride in beckoning new challenges and achieving the impossible. In keeping with the same theme, this year’s Amaze was hallowed with the true spirit of Chak De!

Setting the intrinsic energy of Amaze ablaze, IIPM Chennai hosted the event on 28th & 29th February 2008 at its own campus. Organizers and participants were oozing with equal enthusiasm. True to tradition, the event this year opened with a welcome note delivered by Ms.Suchita Lohia of the Fall Winter ’06-’08 batch. The guests of honor Mr. Stanislav Simakhov, Vice Consul, Consulate General of Russia and Director, Russian Centre of Science & Culture and Mr. Vladimir E. Potapov, Deputy Director, Russian Centre of Science & Culture and Head of Russian Language Institute shared their thoughts on the auspicious occasion. Prof.Amlan Ray, Dean-Administration IIPM Chennai and Prof R.Krishnan, Dean-Academics IIPM Chennai, were also present while the guests of honor set the function rolling by the traditionallighting of the lamp’.

The gathering witnessed the participation of a dozen reputed colleges across the city. The students had a celebration time over the mixed flavor of both cultural as well management events like Debate, Quiz, Best Manager, Flip Back, New Product Launch, ADZAP, Antakshari, Face Painting, Sattar Minute (70 minutes) etc, spanning two full days. Brilliant minds argued vociferously over the extremely contentious topic "Mergers and Acquisitions are Murders and Accusations”. Meanwhile the campus was a riot of colors of National Integration for the Face Painting contest. A beautiful concept of fixture created a whirl to the air stream inside the college grounds. The match ‘Sattar Minute’ was uniquely designed to gel with the theme of Chak De’. The conceptualization of the game has its roots in the famous inspirational speech given by the coach of Chak De India’s Women Hockey team just before the final game… “Go out and play the 70 minutes (Sattar minute) of your lifetime.” Sattar Minute managed to ignite souls, challenge minds, evoke sportsmanship and even shot the winner to stardom in 70 minutes.

Event Description with details of the event:

Enthusiasm is definitely contagious- and this was evident at our inter-college fest at IIPM, Chennai. The energy shown by the singers onstage was only an extension of their natural selves, which was seen at the press conference held before the event. The balmy Saturday evening gave way to high-energy performance that spelt fun, fun and more fun all the way. It had to be with names like KK, Shaan, and Anuradha Sriram lined up to perform. The CSI Wesley grounds was packed with a noticeably young crowd who were all geared up for the much awaited concert in the city.

And then, in walked the owner of one of the city’s most popular voices, Suchitra, who was also the emcee for Amaze 07. The splendid event began with KK’s performance. He appeared on stage with his blonde streaks gleaming in the bright lights. Opening the act, he performed Yaaron, the soundtrack from the movie Rockford, following a number of hits, including his Tamil hits Apadi Podu and Strawberry Kanne, which made the crowd almost uncontrollable. It was then Chennai’s pride Anuradha Sriram’s turn to keep the audience entertained. The lovely lady obviously had a gorgeous voice as well, judging from the crowd’s response.

However the minute Shaan got on stage, all hell broke loose. He wasted no time, getting right down to business with the sound track of Don that pumped the lively audience to a still higher degree. He performed the very cool, hip-hoppy Main Aisa Kyon Hoon from Lakshya and his hits Bhool JA, Tanha Dil, Suno naa, Fanaa and more.

The finale unfolded when the three artistes got on stage to perform the feel-good Koi Kahe and the very peppy it’s the time to disco. Also, there was John Britto’s team of dancers doing their bit, with their hip hop, salsa, meringue and freestyle adding to the variety. The entire evening was a heady cocktail of racy numbers and electrifying dances and enthusiastic encores ensuring that everyone who came had an unforgettable experience.
