Convocation Ceremony
Date: 4th June 2007
Venue: Taj Lands End, Bandra West
On the 4th of June 2007; The Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Mumbai hosted the Convocation Ceremony for the batch of 2006. The ceremony marked the ending of an epoch as the students were prepared to enter the corporate world.
The lobby of Taj Land’s End Mumbai was filled with excited faces as student’s arrived with their parents in tow to celebrate the occasion. The function began with the host Kim Jagtiani welcoming the Chief Guest Mr. Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman & National Creative Director, O&M and Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri, Honorary Dean, IIPM. The corporate guest who were present from all walks of the industry were felicitated with mementoes, namely Mr. A. Janakiraman, President- New Business Reliance Industries Ltd; Mr. Avinash Deolekar Vice President HR, Pepsi; Mr. Arijit Sengupta, Vice President- Corporate Voice, Weber Shandwick; Mr. B. S. Mahal- Vice President HR, Enkay Telecoms; Mr. N. S . Iyer Head HR, Asian Paints and Ms. Priya Khare- Head HR First India.
This was followed by the ceremony of lighting the “diya”’ by Mr. Piyush Pandey and Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri accompanied by a vandana dance.
The stage was commanded by Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri who reminded the students to hold their head high and be proud to be the alumni of IIPM. He also felicitated Mr. Piyush Pandey with a memento to commemorate the occasion. Mr. Piyush Pandey proceeded by underlying the importance of team work and passion for future managers and wished the students luck in their future endeavours. Thereafter he awarded the deserving students with Academic Gold and Silver Medals. Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri also awarded students with the Director’s Gold and Silver.
This was followed by the awarding of degrees by the corporate guests
The occasion ended with a heart rendering speech by Mr. Shubho Shekher Bhattacharyjee Dean Center for Planning & Entrepreneurship, IIPM. The ceremony ended in euphoria with the students tossing their convocation hats.

On the 27th of July 2006 The Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Mumbai hosted the Convocation Ceremony for the Mumbai and Pune batches of 2005 ending an epoch as our students were preparing to enter another.
The lobby of Taj Land’s end Mumbai was filled with excited faces as student’s arrived with their parents in tow to celebrate the occasion. The function began with the host Kim Jagtiani welcoming the Chief Guest Dr. J.J.Irani Chairman Tata Refractory and Director Tata Sons and Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri. The corporate guest who were present from all walks of the industry were then felicitated, namely Mr. Ashok Ajmera - Chariman & Managing Director Ajmera Group, Mr.Smarta - Managing Director Interlink, Mr. Devarshi Buch Director - Omnitech, Mr.Ambresh Baliga Vice President - Karvy Consultants, Mr. Hiren Parekh Vice President - Cibil, Mr. Manish Kumar Head HR - Reliance Capital, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Head HR - Abacus.
Dr. JJ Irani then proceeded by underlying the importance of ethics for future managers and wished the students luck in their future endeavours. He then awarded the deserving students with Academic Gold and Silver Medals. Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri then awarded students with the Director’s Gold and Silver.
This was then followed by the awarding of degrees for the IIPM Mumbai Spring Summer Batch.
The guests were then enamored by the performance of the IIPM Mumbai band who wooed the audiences with songs like Pal and Papa kehte hai, bringing out a flood of memories of bygone college days.
The celebration then broke for lunch. Following lunch, degrees were then awarded to the Pune and Mumbai Spring Summer Batch. This was followed by a heart rendering speech by Mr. Shouvick Dutta Dean IIPM Mumbai as he emotionally described the day he first saw all the students during their orientation day and today he had to bid them goodbye.
The ceremony ended in a flourish with a musical performance by Mr.Jared a student of the IIPM Mumbai batch of 2005. The ceremony ended in euphoria with the students tossing their convocation hats.
