Event: Parables 2007-Stories to save tomorrow

The Indian Institute of Planning & Management, Mumbai organized a seminar on Creative Writing and also felicitated the winners of the Parables 2007 The All India Writing Competition. This year the focus of Parables 2007 is – "Stories to Save Tomorrow". The theme is based on saving the environment. The success of Parables 2007 has been astounding with entries flowing in from all across the country. More than 100 schools and colleges across India participated in the competition.
The winners of the competition were invited to Mumbai for the felicitation ceremony and seminar on Creative writing the panelists are Sudhir Mishra – Film Director & Script Writer – Hazaron Khwaisha Aise, Chameli, Calcutta Mail – National Award winner, Ashok Rane – Movie Critic and Writer –Winner of two National Awards for writing - Director Indian Film Academy Arshad Sayeed - Script Writer – Television: Great Indian Comedy Show, Shh Koi Hai, Ranvir Vinay and Kaun. Rahul Jauhari – Country Head –Rediffusion DY & R Dr. Rashneh Pardiwala – Head Center for Environment research and Education and Dr. Anish Andheria, - Director, Natural History and Science with Sanctuary magazine and Girish Raut Environmentalist and advocate.
The speakers shared their views on writing and the various parameters youngsters must adhere to while building their career. Mr. Sudhir Mishra said "Creativity cannot be defined or mapped hence it required more passion and commitment". While Mr. Arshad Sayeed "discussed how people are enamored by movies but very few realize that the crux of a movies success lies with its writer."
The panelist also shared their view on environment with Dr. Pardiwala insisting that citizens should take small steps in our daily life to make a real change while Dr. Anish Andheria made the audience realize the dire state of depleting environmental conditions in India.
This was followed by the felicitation ceremony of the All India Winners of Parables 2007. The winners were,

3rd Place – Shweta Pillai – Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Ahmedabad
The winners were awarded with cash prizes, 1st Prize: Rs. 15,000, 2nd: Prize Rs. 10,000 3rd Prize: Rs. 5000 in each category. |

The Indian Institute of Planning and Management Mumbai organized an All India Writing Competition titled Parables – stories that change lives on the 5th of December. Students across 250 Colleges participated in the event, which required budding writers to write a story on their chosen Social Cause. To felicitate the winners a Seminar on Creative Writing was organized at the Rang Sharda Auditorium on the 16th of December.
The All India Winners were Ms. Zainab Kakal – KC College Mumbai - 1st Place, Runner’s up –Ms. Saubhangini Singh – Women’s Christian College Chennai, and Ms. Joanne De Almedia – St Mira’s College Pune from the Undergraduate Section. In the Graduate and Post Graduate Section the winner was Ms. Sudha Sukumar – IIPM Hyderabad and the runners up were Janice D’souza NMIMS and Karishma Gupte KC College – Mumbai.
More than 250 Schools and Colleges participated in the event across India, Like Symboises, IIT, Bhartiya Vidya Peeth, St. Xaviers, Loyola Institute, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, St. Andrews, Lala Lajpat Rai etc.
The panelist for the seminar included renowned names like Gregory David Roberts - Shantaram Author,Tuhin Shah - A Thing Called Love - Author & Script writer Ruchi Narayan - Author Director Calcutta Mail, Director Movie Kal,Alpana Choudhary - Freelance Journalist contibuting to Verve, DNA, TOI also written biographies of Famous actors like Dev Anand And Madubala,Priti Nayar Chakravarthy - Lowe Lintas Head Creative Director,Sanjay Jog - Political Editor - Financial Times.
The seminar was a continuing effort to IIPM’S endeavor to spread the awareness of the written word and also highlight various Social Causes. The winning entries highlighted important issues like Peer Pressure, Child Abuse, Under Aged Children Working etc.
