Event: Global Outreach Program
Presented By: Prof. Stephen Covey
Date: 26th July 2007
Internationally respected leadership authority, family expert, teacher, organizational consultant, and author Dr. Stephen Covey took a special session with the students of IIPM Mumbai. Dr. Covey who has dedicated his life to teaching principle-centered living talked about the very important subject of trust not only at an individual level but also at a professional and organizational level. He emphasized how trust plays a pre-dominant role in today’s business. Today’s business gives more credence to Trust rather than due-diligence.
He explained the concept by using Warren Buffet and Bill Gates as an exemplary evidence. Warren Buffet gave close to 30 billion dollars to the Melinda-Gates foundation in a mere 29 days even though both these business tycoons hardly knew each other. The transaction was based more on trust and in today’s business it plays a very important role.

TOPIC: GOP SEMINAR ON DECISION MAKING AND RISK MANAGEMENT
DATE: 29th November 2006
Ever thought of how many choices we are faced with daily and how many decisions we take? These decisions impact our lives, sometimes very minimally and sometimes on a large scale. That's what the seminar held on the 29th of December'06 dealt with-Decisions. The seminar on Decision-Making and Risk Management conducted by Prof. Zeus Shapira was an eye-opening experience.
Prof. Zeus Shapira showed a whole new way of taking decisions. One example quoted by him was of Mr. X who is faced with the decision of choosing one job over another. What most people would do is put down the pro's and cons of both jobs and then choose the job with the most pro's. What Prof. Shapira said is that this decision making process can be made more accurate by using a Decision Tree. Decision Trees are excellent tools for helping you to choose between several courses of action. They provide a highly effective structure within which you can lay out options and investigate the possible outcomes of choosing those options. They also help you to form a balanced picture of the risks and rewards associated with each possible course of action. By using this method Mr. X can take an informed and more accurate decision. Of course these decisions are coloured by emotions and individual preferences. The decisions you take are subjective and also have a tendency to change with time.
Very often people taken decisions very irrationally or impulsively and this seminar showed a more practical and precise way to make decisions. It will prove to be a very useful tool since all will have a lot of important decisions to take as managers of tomorrow!!

The seminar took off with an enlightening speech by Mr. Churi. In one sentence, he could be described as a pioneer of exotic vegetables in India. He advised the students to plan for future and act accordingly in the present. The next point which he stressed on is that ‘Nothing is impossible’.
The next speaker to conquer the minds of the students was Mr. Vishal Gondal. He is a young and dynamic personality. He repeatedly instilled in the young minds that what passion can drive one to achieve the extraordinary.
Lastly, Ms. Nirupam Hirenath, encouraged the students to implement the out-of-the-box ideas. She reinforced the drive within every student to dream big, believe in it and plan for it. And for the same one must research on it, build a good team, have good branding and arrange for finance. These were a few tips that came directly from an entrepreneur who has made a name for herself in this competitive world.
The seminar was summed up by Mr. Shouvick Dutta, Dean-IIPM Mumbai. He ignited a fire within every IIPMiate who dreamt of doing something big someday in their lives. He then ended the seminar thanking the panelists and Globus.

To exist is to change; to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself.
It is a well-known fact that most mergers and acquisitions fail due to people-centric issues as the management is unable to harmonize the work cultures of two different organizations. This seminar was an attempt to understand the challenges faced by the management that are greater in case of cross-border integration and require looking beyond the financial issues to a more sensitive factor of handling people.
IIPM Mumbai took the initiative of discussing “Merger in progress”, with few eminent people from various sectors as panelists.
