Topic: Stock Market

The topic "The Stock Market" was presented by Mr. Mohit Kr. Jha, wherein he described different functions in Indian Stock Market. A stock exchange is essentially a marketplace for stocks and bonds, with stockbrokers earning small commissions on each transaction they make and stocks that are handled by one or more stock exchanges are called listed stocks.
He briefly explained that if corporation's stock to be listed on an exchange then the company must meet certain exchange requirements and each exchange has its own criteria and standards, but in general a company must show that it has sufficient capital and is in sound financial condition.
He made the students visualize the importance of stock market. He described the stock market is one of the most important sources for companies to raise money which allows businesses to go public, or raise additional capital for expansion. He even touched upon an attractive feature of investing in stocks, compared to other less liquid investments such as real estate and briefed the students about the history that has shown that the price of shares and other assets is an important part of the dynamics of economic activity, and can influence or be an indicator of social mood and central banks tend to keep an eye on the control and behavior of the stock market and, in general, on the smooth operation of financial system functions and highlighting the key points about SEBI which acts as the watch dog in the share market. |

Topic: Competency Mapping

The topic "Competency Mapping" was presented by Mr. Agniwesh Thakur, wherein he addressed the students about the different aspects of competency mapping in the field of HR. Competency mapping is a process of identifying key competencies for a particular position in an organization, and then using it for job-evaluation, recruitment, training and development, performance management, succession planning, etc. Competency-based HR is considered the best HR. In India however competency development and mapping still remains an unexplored process in most IT organizations despite the growing level of awareness. The competency framework serves as the bedrock for all HR applications. As a result of competency mapping, all the HR processes like talent induction, management development, appraisals and training yield much better results. Competency mapping not only identifies the positive aspect of the employee in the organization but also bringing out and polishing the key skills which he possesses. He explained the various methodologies for designing and developing competency frameworks which includes the following:
1) Internal research methodology using behavioral event interview.
2) External research relevant and analogous to the organization’s situation-not as a driver, but as a reference point. |

The topic "Stock Market Functions" was presented by Mr. Nand Kr. Kakirde, wherein he described different functions in Stock Market. He explained the market in which shares are issued and traded either through exchanges or over-the-counter markets. He also talked about the equity market, which is one of the most vital areas of a market economy as it provides companies with access to capital and investors with a slice of ownership in the company and the potential of gains based on the company's future performance. He explained that the market can be split into two main sections: the primary and secondary market. The primary market is where new issues are first offered, with any subsequent trading going on in the secondary market.
He elucidated the reasons behind the bulls and the bears in the stock market and dealt with general term referring to the organized trading of securities through the various physical and electronic exchanges and the over the counter market. The securities involved include Common Stock, Preferred Stock, Bonds, Convertibles, Options rights, and warrants. He emphasized more on the commodity market and he briefly explained the importance of the stock market.
During the end of the session he answered the queries of the students and allowed the students to visit Pune Stock Exchange to see the process live. |

Topic: Importance of HR in IT & ITES Industry

The topic "Importance of HR in IT and ITES Sector" was presented by Mr. Deepak Parbat, wherein he addressed the students about the importance and different roles which an HR person has to follow in an IT and ITES Sector. He also discussed the policies and strategies that are being followed by their organization for the retention of their employees. The changing role of HR is aimed to make the function a strategic partner in business growth. Instead of being a support function, HR professionals need to speak a language that the rest of the organization can relate to—in terms of business development. It has become the powerful player in the organization that can bring figures to the table and state its point with quantifiable data. The HR department needs constant support from the top management who should create the right ambience in the organization to enable the efforts of the department and involve them in the decision-making processes. HR needs to understand the business drivers for the company. HR policies and processes impact the business, particularly those pertaining to recruitment, retention and talent management. He also clarified the future of the IT and ITES Sector in India in which he made it very clear that in the coming next five to ten years ITES will be going through a very tough time where as the IT sector will be at its peak. |

Topic: Leadership - The Laagan Way

The topic "Leadership- the Lagaan Way" was presented by Mr. R.H. Marlapalli, wherein he addressed the students about the different aspects of Leadership.
To put more clarity on the topic Mr. Marlapalle used the example from the film “Lagaan” and focused on twenty two theories of leadership which was delivered in the movie. He did not just conduct it as a lecture but also made the session interesting by converting it to a workshop. During these Two and a half hours he did take up the clips and situations from Lagaan and several other movies to clarify the different laws of leadership.
He also focused on the ANTS THEORY OF LEADERSHIP AND MOTIVATION.
The lecture was concluded with the gratified answers by Mr. R.H. Marlapalli in respect to the questions raised by the students and was formally settled by felicitating Mr. Marlapalli with token of respect |

Topic: Training Functions

The topic "Training Functions" was presented by Mr. Vishwanath Joshi, wherein he related the topic with different training functions in his organization ‘Brainvisa’. For this organization it is very important to focus on relationship management as at Brainvisa they believe in value-driven, long-term relationships - both with their employees as well as clients. As a result, they have a dynamic and committed team of professionals as well as an appreciative clientele. Moreover, their record of failed projects till date is zero. He put light upon the different training programs and different training workshops which they conduct during the year for their clients. He explained how they at Brainvisa plan out different workshops for training both on season and off season. He described that the training function has been viewed as a supplementary activity to orient employees and equip them with the right tools to carry the job at hand. However, training is increasingly becoming a more vital and critical functioned. Training program assists in developing the essential knowledge and skills required to effectively manage the training function. The cornerstones of such program are the practical applicability of the learned techniques to the participants’ respective work place.
He also dealt with a case study relating to the Training functions at Brainvisa wherein he briefly explained different types of training like on-job training, off-job training, focus group training. The session provided the students with practical knowledge to effectively manage the training function. |

The topic "Retention Strategies" was presented by Mr. Kamal Vatnani, wherein he addressed the students about the different strategies which are being followed by different kind of industries for the retention of their employees. He also discussed the policies and strategies that are being followed by their organization for the retention of their employees. As he mentioned that the recruitment in IT sector is getting tougher and many new opportunities are coming up in the field of IT. It is still becoming tougher to retain their trained and good performers. He also brought it in the notice of the students about the cost involved in retention of the employees. He also stated that Employee Retention Strategies helps organizations provide effective employee communication to improve commitment and enhance workforce support for key corporate initiatives. He also mentioned the key areas involved in the retention of the employees, out of which five of the parts are taken as the most important:

IIPM Pune organized a scintillating pre-budget seminar titled “Budgeting for a Billion Dreams” on Sunday, 20th February. The eminent speakers in this Seminar were Dr Ajit Sinha, Director , Gokhale Institute of Political Science & Economics, Dr O.P. Chawla, Ex-Director, NIBM, Mr ND Joshi, CFO, Deepak Fertilisers, Mr Chandrasekhar Chitale, Treasurer (MCCIA) and Mr Koreel Lahiri, Senior Analyst, CNBC. The talks were moderated by Dr Suresh Vishwanath, ex-faculty, Damelin Management School (Johannesburg). The main attraction of the seminar was a presentation on sectoral analysis by IIPM Students and release of the Pre Budget Survey Report.
Post –Budget Analysis - Nexus
IIPM Pune ventured to organize a Post- Budget Seminar titled NEXUS – Post –Budget Analysis. The seminar was organized at the Pudumjee Hall, MCCIA in Pune on SATURDAY, March 18. The keynote speakers were Mr. Monish Darda, Director (WEBSYM Technologies), Mr. Atul Mehrotra, AVP-Finance (UMA Precision Ltd.), Dr. M.K Datar – G.M. Finance – IDBI BANK.
The seminar started with a scintillating presentation done by IIPM Students on Impact Analysis and Post Budget Survey. The Impact Analysis was done on 17 Sectors and covered both the positive and negative outlook. The post budget survey brought out some interesting findings --- only 28% respondents were very happy with the budget announcements, 67% were very happy that the budget will be able to create educational facilities, 44% said Budget be able to create better Infrastructure but 62 % were of the opinion that the hike in service tax will affect the service sector adversely.
Mr. Atul Mehrotra helped the audience to understand the budget in a simplified manner. He also explained lucidly about the auto –ancillaries industries and how the budget is going to have an impact on manufacturing sector.Mr. Monish Darda gave an overview of the IT Industry and explained the implications of the budget announcements on the IT Industry.Dr. M.K. Datar focused on the implication of the Banking and Capital Market and how the banking sector would be affected by this budget.
The VAT Seminar
After the resounding success of the Pre-budget & Post-Budget Seminars, IIPM Pune ventured to organize a seminar on VAT titled VAT IS THE MATTER ??. The seminar was organized at the Nehru Memorial Hall in Pune on Sunday, July 3rd. The keynote speakers were Mr C V Pawar, DGM-Finance(Godrej), Mr Gyanendra Tripathy , Manager (E&Y), Mr Fatehchand Ranka, President(Jewellery Association of India), Mr Satish Shwelkar , GM-Finance (Alfa Laval), Mr J. Krishnaswamy, DGM-Finance (Tata Motors) and Mr Suresh Ghotage , GM-Finance (Atlas Copco). The roundtable discussion was moderated by Prof P.K. Rajagopal. The main attraction of the seminar was a scintillating presentation done by IIPM Students on VAT Impact Analysis and findings of the VAT Perception Survey. We also brought out a research publication on VAT to supplement the learnings and commemorate the occasion.
THE SUCCESSION FACTOR --- HR SEMINAR
IIPM Pune organized a seminar titled “The Succession Factor” on 18th August at Le Meridien, Pune. The management event was attended by various eminent corporate personalities and the speaker panel consisted of Mr. G. S. Mungali-CEO (Projects), Venkateshwara Hatcheries Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Devrajan R-Head HR, IDBI Bank, Mr. Bobby Kuriakose-Head HR, Forbes Marshall and Mr. Ahmed Zafir – Head Recruitments, Tata Motors.
MAPPING THE MIND OF THE MODERN CONSUMER
On October 1st, 2005, the 4Ps Club of IIPM Pune set out to achieve the daunting task of penetrating the consumer’s mind through the seminar “Mapping the Mind of the Modern Consumer”. This seminar was held at Le Meridien , Pune and was graced by the luminaries of the corporate world like Mr Harish Bijoor(CEO, Harish Bijoor Consults) , Mr R Sriram (CEO, Crossword), Mr Rajeev Gupta (CEO, Reliance Industries), Mr Sam Ellangoor (President, Marketing, Airtel), Mr Pusphas Joshi (President, Marketing, KPIT Cummins), Ms Kiran Bhat (CEO, Xebec Communications).
Wealth Management Seminar
IIPM Pune ventured to organize a Wealth Management Seminar titled Who Manages Your Wealth Today? The seminar was organized at the Hotel Aurora Towers in Pune on SATURDAY, June 24. The keynote speakers were Mr. Umesh Kudalkar, Managing Director (Sicom Capital Management), Mr. Arvind Laddha, Managing Director (Vantage Insurance Services Ltd.), Mr. Manish Rangari – Executive Director – (Pune Stock Exchange), Mr.V.Suresh, Vice – President ( UTI Asset Management Ltd.), Prof. Jayanta Chakraborti – Associate Dean ( IIPM, Pune).
The seminar started with a scintillating presentation done by IIPM Students on Impact Analysis and Strategies for the wealth management today. The Research team also developed the case studies to help the practitioners answer three fundamental questions: a) What effect do a client’s biases have on the asset allocation decision? B) Should you moderate or adapt to these biases? C) What is the best practical allocation for each investor?
Mr. Umesh Kudalkar helped the audience to understand the Asset Allocation model for the High net worth Individuals. He also explained the risk –return trade-off. Mr.Arvind Laddha gave an overview of the Wealth Management and explained the opportunities available for the students in corporate in the area of wealth management. Mr. Manish Rangari focused on the implication of the Capital Markets and how by staying invested for the long term a person can earn a consistent return on the investments. Mr.V.Suresh highlighted the students on the mutual fund industry & gave them an insightful idea into the wealth management strategies followed through the mutual fund investments. Prof. Jayanta Chakraborti summarized the whole seminar by highlighting the value added strategies of the wealth management. |
