LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
For a few dollars more...

The cover story was an eye opener (B&E, August 12 to 25: Ed). It has very nicely illustrated how so many of the Indian companies are fat cats; they are sitting on piles of cash, instead of investing it for better use. Keep up the unbiased analysis! There are few people who can actually critically view the so-called global companies of India. Such stories are a good reason to pick a copy of B&E every fortnight.

...for a few computers more

The article on PC manufacturers (Stratagem, B&E, August 12 to 25: Ed) is good. Lowering price is not the only solution to gain a market share; value to the customer is very important. They should restrain from blindly jumping into the price trap, just for selling a few computers more...

Kudos!

I have read every issue of Business & Economy magazine. I am sure that the Planman Consulting team is really putting e?orts in making B&E the number one in the market. The innovating team of Business & Economy impresses me, as it keeps coming up with new ideas, like including the jobs section, which was not there in earlier issues.

Poverty agenda of desireč

The Desireč is rare to ?nd in a business magazine and I appreciate its inclusion in Business & Economy. But I should like to put across just a small viewpoint, however out of context it might seem. After reading various articles in your magazine, your pro-poor agenda seems quite clear. Does not Desireč go against this pro-poor agenda? But yes, it'll be great to have all the people below the poverty line one day being able to a?ord whatever is displayed in Desireč.

Are we blundering ahead?

Being a marketing graduate, the Russia story in Pecunia (B&E, August 12 to 25: Ed), your magazine's ?nance section, was quite a confusing read. I found so many numbers put across with so much emphasis on the blunder that the Russian Central Bank has done... I do believe that you need to include such complex contexts in a much simpler manner, especially for readers like me, who want to understand, but ?nd the article too complicated. Sir, is there any help coming this way of us 'blunderous' few?...

Scrutiny

Water be damned! Your article with the same name in the Scrutiny section of B&E (August 12 to 25: Ed) seems extremely analytically prophesic in nature. However, I have to agree to disagree with the complete context of the article. For example, in various parts of rural - and now urban too - Kolkata, it is not availability of water that is the real problem, but lead and aresenic poisoning in such available water. Are we Indians supposed to lead our lives like dogs who, by the way, also have access to water - dirty water? I dejectedly have to accept the hypothesis of your incisive article, but have to put across that it would have been better if impurity factors in available and supplied water were also analysed.

The lux of luxembourg

Oh, how one would love to go to Luxembourg (Panache, B&E, July 30 to August

25: Ed) after the review of the country's tourist destinations in your magazine. I have to mention that the quality of English that you all are using is fabulous. In your country stories, can you all also start mentioning the genesis of the name of the country? For example, is there any connection between the Lux diamond and Luxembourg? I think readers like me would really be fascinated by these small facts, which anyways (sic) are there.

Karat the carrot...or karat the carat...or both

Indian politicians have one goal only, 'get votes'. It is not a hidden truth that party members can rise in Indian parties due to two reasons. Number one, they could be sons and daughters (legitimate or otherwise) of politicians. Number two, they could be really working hard for the party. Your review of Prakash Karat (Politics, B&E, July 30 to August 12: Ed) clears out that despite being neither of the above, he has risen up the party because of satisfying two roles. One, of the carrot for the Congress (attracting talented people into the party). Two, of the carat (making Congress image look good outside). If only Congress had many such more...
