Amaze, branded as India's liveliest and biggest management fest, has been happening across 15 cities in India. IIPM, Chennai’s Amaze 2011 kicked off with a bang on 20th October 2011. The 3-day extravagance with 22 events, tailor made to test one’s limits, it was a perfect platform to showcase talent in front of corporate giants!
Dr. C. Sylendra Babu, IPS, IG-North, was the chief guest for the function held at IIPM Tower, Egmore. He motivated the audience with a superb inspirational speech. His humour-studded talk emphasised a few simple yet powerful mantras for the budding managers and entrepreneurs, who had gathered in the packed auditorium. These include – 1.Love people, 2.Learn to smile, 3.Call people by their names, 4.Try to listen, 5.Give respect to all human beings, and 6. Don’t criticize unnecessarily.
There were an array of events on the first day itself - starting with Business plan, Best Manager, Debate, Brand Elementz, Creative Writing, Junk Arts, 60 Seconds to Fame and lots more. The highlights of the first day included the presence of talented names from the industry who dropped by to judge the events. Junk Arts was judged by Ms. Mumtaz Alam, Ms. Pooja of Airtel Super Singer 3 fame dropped in to judge 60 Seconds to Fame and Mr. Trilok judged Short Film Making.
The 2nd day, i.e. 21st October, 2011 turned out to be more exciting with the finals of most events happening such as Best Manager, Paper Presentation, Quiz Master, IIPM Star – Solo Singing Competition, Ad Zap and lots more. Adzap was judged by Mr. Sukumaran, Mr. Mano and VJ Dhwani Rao. If that wasn’t all, there were other celebrities like Mr.Rajan, Mr. Diwakar, Mr. Naren, and Mr. Thanga Durai who judged Dumb Charades. The surprise was when the judges entertained the crowd with their fabulous performances making them dance to their tunes. Following this, RJ Muthu of 92.7 Big FM fame and singer Mr. Velmurugan judged the IIPM Star – solo singing competition. Mr. Velmurugan performed his famous and mesmerising songs like ‘Otha Sollala’ for which RJ Muthu could not stop himself from shaking his legs along with the crowd. Beloved professors and corporate trainers including Dr. Malini Pande, Prof. Sowmiya Balaji, Prof. S. Krishnamurthy, Prof. Anitha Nandhini, and Prof. Bhaskar Reddy added to the elite panel of judges for various management events.
The 3rd day events included fashion show, choreography and a ‘war of bands’ staged at St. Johns School, Mandaveli on 22nd October. The evening started with the host performance for fashion show. Judges were actress Sona and Ms. Muthulakshmi, Proprietor, Pearls Beauty Lounge. The teams from Amity gave a stiff competition, while the winners from SRM stole the thunder and the team from MOP were declared as runners-up for the show.
After the sizzling fashion show, the Snitchers dance group rocked the stage, marking the beginning of the choreography round. The Amity group came up with a performance with the theme “Child Labour”, which won a special award for “theme-based choreography” even as the Snitchers team grabbed the First prize. Time then came for the bands to clash, that started with a bang as the crowd rose up and moved forward towards the stage for some head banging! There seemed to be real stiff competition, with Instinct Routes mesmerizing the judges Bruce Lee and Sridhar. The war started ‘hotting’ up late into the night and could have gone on till early dawn, if it was not for the concern for the neighbourhood’s bed-time solitude that prompted the venue sponsor to call it a day! SRM and KM Musical, were still waiting for their turn to be up on stage and rock into the night. Thus Amaze 2011 came to a fantastic end with a grand finale which turned out to be a star studded event. SS Music was there to cover it.
The ace photographers for the event were Harikrishnan of Hari Photography, Kavya and Arihant of SS/11-13 Siddarthof SS/10-12 and Hammad Akhtar of FW/10-12. 85 colleges had registered for the event that was sponsored by 34 corporate entities, with Auraley being the key sponsor.
The event saw a lot of support from IIPM Alumni – Mr. Nelson, Partner- Auraley; Mr. Pameer, Director- Brut; 2 Directors of Think Diverso, Mr. Vetriselvan & Mr. Jayaraman; Quizmaster Mr. Sylvian Patrick; Mr. Sudhakar and others. In the words of Mr. S.P.
