Workshop on Consumer protection Act by Mr.T.L.Subramaniam at IIPM Chennai

PGP/SS/11-13/ISBE-E batch students began their week on an intellectual note, with a Guest Lecture by Mr. T.L.Subramaniam on the topic “Overview of Consumer Protection Act”. The session began with Ms. Manisha introducing the speaker to the audience. Mr. Subrmaniam started the session with basic interaction to understand the knowledge students had on the topic. He then explained in detail the definition and purpose of the Consumer Protection Act. He also compared the Consumer Protection Act to the Sale of Goods Act and Contract Act to throw light on the differences that existed between them and also their relevance. He then went on to speak about the detailed process for filing complaints that consumers can follow and also the multiple tier Court system that existed. After explaining in detail he discussed the contrasting differences between Indian and foreign legal systems. Quoting relevant examples he described the compensation differences that a consumer would get, for a similar case, in India and abroad. The session ended with questions from the students end with regard to real life experiences they had encountered and whether or not complaints could be filed for those instances, which the speaker readily answered. The session came to an end with Mr. Mohanraj proposing the Vote of Thanks and Ms. Harshini giving the guest a memento as a token of appreciation.

IIPM Chennai conducts a Business Plan competition for students

The program started off with a welcome address by Mr. Bharath Kumar followed by the bouquet distribution to the judges by Hari Krishnan, Rishiprakash and Radhinesh. Four different groups presented their innovative business plans namely Gurukul, Gardening solutions, Maintenance services and Bike for rent respectively. The young upcoming entrepreneurs presented enthusiastically on their respective topics as a group. They were so confident in bringing out their business idea to the lime light that the judges found it difficult to come up with the prize winning. Though all the teams came up with brilliant presentations Gurukul walked away with the 1st Prize followed by Gardening solutions that turned out to be the runners up for the day. The program came to a positive end with Mr. Bharath Kumar proposing the vote of thanks and giving away the mementos to the honorable judges.
