Cicero's Challenge

Cicero’s Challenge is a one of its kind global debate competition, targeted at the high school students in their final years at school. It brings together young and enthusiastic students on a common platform to showcase their oratory skills, as evident from the name of the event – Cicero’s Challenge – a tribute to one of Greek’s legendary orators.

IIPM Delhi conducts Cicero Carnival 2012

IIPM New Delhi successfully hosted Cicero’s Carnival 2012 on the 3rd and 4th of May 2012. India’s biggest and liveliest school festival, Cicero’s Carnival was a grand success with over 5,500 students and above 80 schools from Delhi and NCR participating in the event. Some of the participating schools were DPS RK Puram, Modern School Barakhamba, Modern School Vasant Vihar, Ryan Interntional Vasant Kunj, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Mont Fort School, Don Bosco, St. Pauls, St. Thomas, APJ Sheik Sarai, St. Columbas, Amity International School Gurgaon etc. On 3rd May, a total of thirteen highly intellectual and competitive events were held at the venue, IIPM International campus, Chattarpur, New Delhi. Some of the events were Cicero’s Challenge (preliminary round)- The carnival’s flagship event and India’s biggest debate competition, Choreography, JAM- Just a Minute, Treasure Hunt, Ad Making, Hangman, T-shirt Painting, Photography, Mr. and Ms. Cicero- Personality contest, School of Rock- Rock band competition etc. The theme for Cicero’s Carnival 2012 was ‘Get Real, which signified the stark distance between the real and virtual world today and an appeal to all participating members to Get Real! All events at Cicero’s Carnival entailed exciting prizes with Cicero’s Challenge (debate) leading the prize list with the customary grand cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- for the winner followed by cash prizes of Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/- for the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. Saksham Aggarwal of Amity International School, Gurgaon, who argued hard on the topic “Virtual World is somewhere I, can be really me” took home the grand prize. A two-way tie between Praney Lekhi and Siddhant Law of Don Bosco and Modern School Barakhamba meanwhile meant that the two shared the second spot. DPS RK Puram won Ad Mad while Don Bosco took home the first prize for Treasure Hunt. In other events, Mont Fort School won first prize for collage making, Asees Bhasin won the first prize for creative writing, Bhavya Batra of Manav Sthali won the first prize for JAM and Modern School again won the rock band competition. The skit competition, which was held on the second day, 4th of May, was won by Ryan International, Vasant Kunj. All events held on 3rd May, except the Choreo and Rock band competition, started at 9 am and concluded by 12:30 pm. The formal events aside, the carnival also included dozens of cracking fun events which were held in the back lawn of the IIPM Campus. The fun events drew frenzied participation from the visiting students who ran all over the place exuding festive colours of joy. The most successful fun events were ‘Barefoot on Ice’, ‘Face Painting’, ‘The Perfect Mummy’, and ‘Goal!’. There was also a dazzling pool party and non-stop rain dance session in the swimming pool which was complimented by some terrific music blasting out of the DJ’s speakers. School of Rock- Rock band competition deserves a special mention owing to the sensational performances by the schools rock bands. The talent on display was a fitting tribute to the fact that there is life beyond studies while the euphoria with which the bands were cheered on was an indication that the current generation is cognisant of that fact. All in all, Cicero’s Carnival was a well-deserved break for the students before their summer vacation.
